Located in the core zone of Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park, on the bank of the Chay River, Dark Cave was operated for tourism by many domestic and international travel agencies. Dark Cave become one of the most attractive destinations in Quang Binh. Its formation is about 400-500 million years. During the American war, Dark cave was used as a bomb shelter.
In 1992, the cave was discovered by the British Caving Association. Due to the intense darkness covering the corners of the cave, they called it “ Dark”. The cave is 5.258m long, 80m high and 50m wide, including 2 doors: front door adjacent to Chay River (30m high, 10m wide) and back door (50m high, 20m wide). In the cave there are many wonderful stalactites with various shapes and colors. The old stalactites have turned color, the place is lemon yellow, white lime, moss green. In particular, the Dark Cave ‘s stalactites is with parasitic ferns. The image is rare in other caves.

According to scientists, these stalactites are remnants of the period of geological intense movement. The Dark cave has the underground river and a natural freshwater lake called Thuy Tien. Moreover, there is a mud late, the width about 20 m2 with essential minerals that is good for human health. In addition, Dark cave area is also home to animals such as: bat, swallow … especially Ha Tinh langurs – named in the Viet Nam’s Red Book.
Dark cave is managed by Phong Nha – Ke Bang Tourism Center, invested and operated with many attractive services. From the zipline tower, visitors can experience with a 400 meter long zipline service across the river to the front door of the Dark cave. After exploring and mud bathing in the cave, guests will kayak to discover the Chay river, then continue to swing the zipline to float down the river and participate in many exciting underwater games.

1, What should you bring ?
- In order to prepare for the trip, you should prepare yourself a swimwear to take a mud bath.
- And those who do not take a mud bath in the Dark cave, you can wear any clothes that you feel the most comfortable. But the best to swim is wearing swimsuits for swinging zipline.
2, How do visitors buy tickets ?
Because the ticket is not returned, you should determine in advance.
There are two types of tickets:
+ The first type: 450.000VND /a ticket.
The ticket includes: zipline, kayak, mud bath, equipments (a zipline belt, a life jackets, a headlight, a helmet), other underwater games.
+ The second type: 370,000 vnd / a ticket
It includes: Zipline, Kayak, Life jackets, other underwater games.
3, What should you do to save time and enjoy quickly ?
When you buy tickets, you go quickly to change (choose clothes for each type of service). Get a life jacket in hand.
Then you line up in circles to wear the zipline belt. The guide will provide a headlight, helmet. You should try the lamp. As the cave is so dark, you need the light.
After finishing all, please wear a life jacket and go onto the zipline tower to swing , mud bath, rowing the kayack , bathing stream, playing other games…
