Hoang Phuc Pagoda is located in My Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province. This is one of the oldest famous scenic spots in Quang Binh with a history of over 700 years.

In the historical flow of the nation, Hoang Phuc Pagoda has affirmed its position in the spiritual and cultural life of Quang Binh people in general and Le Thuy people in particular since Emperor Tran Nhan Tong brought Buddhist thought to teach at the Pagoda.
Through war and turmoil, Hoang Phuc pagoda still exists and develops with many times of restoration by Lord Nguyen Hoang, Nguyen lords, and Nguyen kings.
In 1609, Lord Nguyen Hoang rebuilt the pagoda on the old foundation and named it Kinh Thien.

In 1821, King Minh Mang visited the pagoda and renamed it Hoang Phuc Tu.
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, after a long time being damaged by wars, especially the capital falling event and the outbreak of Can Vuong rebellion, it was until 1918 that the Hoang Phuc pagoda being restored by a Minister of Ceremonies.

During the pre-insurrection period, with its location adjacent to My Tho – Trung Luc area where the first Communist Party cell in the south of Quang Binh was found (1931), Hoang Phuc Pagoda became a revolutionary base, sheltering soldiers as well as participating in revolutionary propaganda.

At the beginning of May 1945, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was chosen as the meeting place to implement the uprising directives of the superiors and prepare forces and weapons for the uprising to seize power on August 23,1945.
During the resistance War against the French colonialists, Hoang Phuc pagoda was a place to hide weapons, train self-defense militia, and a place where superior military officers met to organize local raids contributed to the overall victory of the resistance war against French colonialists of Quang Binh people.
During the resistance war against the US, My Thuy was one of the communes directly adjacent to the big front line in the South. The Buddhists in Hoang Phuc Pagoda together with the local people joined in fighting in the local battle. In 1967, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was destroyed after continuous bombing by the US enemy.

In 1977, on the old foundation of Hoang Phuc pagoda, local people built a small house to worship the Buddhas, continuing their faith and piety. However, the house was destroyed after a hurricane in 1985.
Previously, the system of worshiping statues at Hoang Phuc Pagoda was quite large, designed on 7 levels of worship. However, at the present, the pagoda only has 7 statues with different materials, shapes and manufacturing techniques.
Hoang Phuc Pagoda – the oldest temple in the Central region has been restored.
With the historical values, on 1st June, 2010 Hoang Phuc Pagoda was ranked as a provincial historical relic by The People Committee of Quang Binh. On 9th December, 2015, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was ranked as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The temple was restored at My Thuy, Le Thuy Quang Binh.
In November 2014, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was restored and embellished in the style of ancient pagoda of the Tran Dynasty. By January 2016, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was completely restored.
Nowadays, the Hoang Phuc Pagoda often organizes training classes.
Hoang Phuc pagoda was restored has contributed to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of the nation as well as meet the religious needs of local people and fellow Buddhists.
