Located in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park, on the bank of the Chay River, Dark Cave was operated for tourism by many domestic and international travel agencies. Dark Cave become one of the most attractive destinations in Quang Binh. Its formation is about 400-500 million years. During the American war, Dark cave was used as a bomb shelter. In 1992, the cave was discovered by the British Caving Association. Due to the intense darkness covering the corners of the cave, they called it “ Dark”. The cave is 5.258m long, 80m high and 50m wide, including 2 doors: front door adjacent to Chay River (30m high, 10m wide) and back door (50m high, 20m wide). In the cave there are many wonderful stalactites with various shapes and colors. The old stalactites have turned color, the place is lemon yellow, white lime, moss green. In particular, the Dark Cave ‘s stalactites is with parasitic ferns. The image is rare in other caves.
